INSPIRATION n HEALTHY LIVING

Courtney’ s Corner By Courtney Dawn Shaw Let all things be done decently and in order-1 Corinthians 14:40

It’ s hard to believe that 2017 is now in the past and we are beginning 2018. I’ m not sure what last year held for you, but for me, it had new beginnings, times of stretching, and deep devastation. On December 19th we received a phone call that no one ever wants to get. My mother-in-law had passed suddenly from a massive heart attack at the age of 62 right before Christmas. The world as we knew it came to a screeching halt and left us with so many questions.

Death has a way of awakening us to life and forcing us to slow down and reevaluate our priorities. It’ s so easy to get caught up in the next deal, keeping up with social media, and growing our bank account. The divine order in life can easily be thrown off by the pressure to make things happen and do whatever it takes to keep an appearance of success. The stresses, cares, and pressures of life can become crushing if we don’ t get accountability, wise counsel, and take care of our health and homes.
I want to encourage you to take the first couple months out of the year to evaluate your priorities and put your house in order. Many of us go into business with the intentions of leaving a legacy and inheritance for the next generations, but fail to be present while we are building for the future. When we take time to prioritize the following areas of our lives, we can be empowered to go from a place of fight to flow.
First, it’ s vital to make sure we take time each day to grow in our faith through prayer and reading the Word so we
can pour into our families, friends, business, and community. Start your day off in prayer / meditation. Keep your phone plugged in another room so you’ re not tempted to grab it first thing in the morning.
Second, focus on staying connected with your family through intentional times around the dinner table and scheduling activities to make lasting memories.
Third, make it a priority to take care of your health. Schedule in your wellness visits with your physician and map out the proper game plan to be a good steward of your body. Be intentional about putting living foods in your body and eliminate fast food and soda. Exercise should be scheduled in at least 3-5 times / week for 30-45 minutes. Taking care of your body is the best gift you can give yourself, family, friends, and community. If you don’ t have your health and strength, you have nothing to give.
Fourth, get your financial house in order! Meet with a financial advisor to get your will in place, life insurance,
and have ALL of your documents, accounts, and budget accessible to your loved one( s). The best legacy you can leave your family is to have everything organized and prepared for them to grab the baton and continue on in life without that burden.
Lastly, reevaluate your relationships. I am a firm believer in quality vs. quantity. Some people you just need to love, forgive, and release if they are not adding to your life. This goes for personal and business relationships. It is not God’ s will for you to be in a place of constant frustration and toxicity. He is not the author of confusion or chaos. I pray this year you will maximize the moments, take deep breaths daily, be present, choose love, joy and peace, and walk in your divine purpose unashamed and guilt-free. You were born to shine and leave a legacy. It’ s time to find your authentic voice and share it with the world.
Tune in weekly on Saturdays at 3pm to 94.9FM and AM950, The Word, as Courtney and her guests inspire, educate, and empower you to live the authentic life.
