Let’ s Climb Together
By Jennifer Yon
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of climbing? For most, it’ s the potential of falling, but why? Why do we think of falling first? Why don’ t we think of the majesty and beauty of the earth that can only be seen from a higher vantage point? We treat the threshold of succeeding in business much the same as climbing to higher heights. We think of the falling first and not the fulfillment of achieving our next goal.
How do we combat the feelings associated with potential failure? With the high rate of suicide, it was crucial to ask questions that allow us to self-reflect on our lives and purposes. Are we filling our life with so many demands that we are allowing doubts to have us second guessing our dream, or are we doing just enough to get by, based on the fear of failing or are we pushing ourselves to the next limit?
There are many ways to maintain self motivation while motivating others. My goal as a CEO is to always encourage and empower you as the reader that no matter how tough it gets, you must continue to reach and strive for greatness. The truth of the matter is, even I become exhausted at times and consider giving up. At the end of the day though, I look at myself in the mirror and say, in the words of Cardi B,“ Knock me down nine times, but I get up ten.”
Secondly, I find a quiet place to meditate and re-evaluate the actions, feelings or doubts that are attempting to penetrate my good vides. And finally, I ask God for strength and discernment in making better choices that yield an abundance of good energy.
Having a plan established prior to the pain prepares you for a stronger comeback. Think of it this way, when a storm is coming there are clear signs that allows our meteorologists to inform us so by the time the storm comes we’ re prepared. Unfortunately, we cannot climb to the next level without weathering a storm, because there’ s always one brewing.
I now realize it is normal to feel overwhelmed and challenged through growth. The same setbacks in business are often the motivation needed to push yourself to the next level. As we grow, we fail, we learn then we succeed. Ready, Aim, Fire … Now is the time to reposition yourself for greatness.
Let’ s Climb Together.
Even in moments of despair, I find comfort knowing that my dreams, passions and drive are built around the success I help others achieve. Because of that, I will not allow myself to be buried in doubt, insecurity or fear. So, again, I present the question, how do we combat the feeling of fear?
For me, I look to friends that I can trust to be vulnerable with and vent to whenever I need. The last thing you can do is take your pain to social media or seek revenge on whom you believe to be the source of your pain. So, create a list of real supporters who will encourage and uplift you during times of uncertainty.
