W hen you walk through the doors of Something Fishy in
Apopka, FL expect to be impressed. The setting is a relaxed beach theme, inspired by the laid back atmosphere of the Hamptons. Owners Terrence and Patrice Phillips along with their 3 children run the restaurant which serves fresh seafood in a casual, fun and friendly atmosphere.
Something Fishy offers fresh cuts of Ahi Tuna, Red Snapper, Shrimp, Salmon, and their famous Crab Cakes. The fish of the day changes weekly and you can have it prepared your way, grilled, fried or blackened. Make sure you try the fried fish sandwich, its lightly breaded and fried fresh not frozen! Something Fishy has become one of those spots I will patronize again and again.
I took a small group recently and we started with the crab cakes. The large, succulent crab meat was lightly fried to perfection. Typically, crab cakes feature more fillers than meat, but Something Fishy did not disappoint. These offered the perfect amount of meat coupled with just enough seasoning to make them absolutely delicious. They are large too! Each would be enough to make a complete meal.
We moved on to the hearty“ Fishy Bowl” which come with your choice of jasmine rice, salad or pasta. We tried some of each. The bowls were filled to the brim with hot, made to order seafood. The pasta was al dente( cooked to perfection) while each bite of the salad was fresh from the garden crisp and the jasmine rice is seasoned with fresh cilantro.
We leaned toward the fried end of the menu by ordering the Clams & Boom Boom Shrimp. The shrimp was served with a spicy( mayo based) sauce which can be served on the side allowing each patron to determine their own personal level of heat. We added seasoned steak fries that were lightly
