Being A " Mom-Prenuer "... Andrea Dunn
As Founder of Let’ s Beehive, Andrea Dunn admits being a“ mom-preneur” has its perks, but it is not easy working a full-time job as an Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, running a non-profit organization, Let’ s Beehive! Inc., being in a relationship, and raising my 2-year-old son.
It takes a lot of discipline, hard work, dedication, patience, a strong support system, and most importantly utilizing effective time management skills. Here are 4 of my secrets to success that help other mom-prenuers balance being a mother and entrepreneur.
Put God First, Pray, and Watch God Move
When I put God first and lived my life according to his will, I literally watched all of my dreams and visions start to become a reality. The scriptures I used to help me at the beginning of my journey and continue to use as daily affirmations are:
“ But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” – Matthew 6:33
“ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7
“ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13
Plan, Strategize, Organize, Repeat
Balancing everything can be a challenge, but you make time for those things that are important. Prioritizing and utilizing effective time management skills is a vital component to being a“ mom-prenuer.” I have one master calendar that I use to plan everything. At the beginning of the year, it is my strategy to plan family goals, business goals, and personal goals for each quarter of the year!( Notice my family goals come before my business goals). Then I narrow each quarter and make a list for each month on how I plan to achieve each goal; week by week, day by day, hour by hour. It takes a lot of time, organization and planning, but it is a road map I use to guide me and keep me on track on a day to day basis. There are a lot of early mornings and long nights, but everything gets done.
Networking & Collaboration
During a Mastermind Class, I learned that“ Your Network is your Net Worth” and that I needed to surround myself with like-minded people to build better relationships and learn how to grow my business. As a mom-prenuer, don’ t be afraid to network and seek opportunities to join local groups, attend networking events, conferences, community service events, etc. It’ all about collaboration and building a team of people to help you build your business. Hire experts to propel you to the next level which allow you have more free time for your family.
Get Your Mind Right, Overcome Obstacles, and Keep It Moving
In life, tests, hardships, trials, and tribulations are going to happen. It’ s just a matter of time. But one thing you have to remember to do is Keep It Moving( K. I. M,)!
This is one of the most vital characteristics a“ mom-prenuer” must be able to do to maintain a positive outlook. If you are not in a good mental space, you will not be able to operate in your full potential as a wife, mother, friend, or entrepreneur. Don’ t hesitate to take a“ mommy break” to help clear your mind because it will help you destress. It’ s not what happens to you that defines who you are; it’ s the way you respond to negative situations and how you overcome that will help you be a better“ mom-prenuer.”
You have to make a conscious decision to succeed for your family, no matter what. You must learn how to channel negative energy to make positive outcomes in your life.
